Menopause-specific Medical Check Up:
1. PRELIMINARY EVALUATION
Days before the check-up, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire. The internist doctor will adapt the check-up tests to your needs.
2. COMPLETE MEDICAL TESTS
- Complete Clinical Evaluation:
- Medical History: Detailed review of symptoms, family history, and risk factors.
- Physical Examination: General evaluation of the state of health.
- Laboratory Tests:
- Lipid profile: Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides.
- Fasting Glucose and Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c): To assess risk of diabetes.
- Thyroid function: TSH, T3 and T4 to rule out thyroid problems.
- Complete Blood Count: To check for anemia and other blood disorders.
- Liver and Kidney Function: AST, ALT, bilirubin, creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN).
- Vitamin D and Calcium Levels: Important for bone health.
- Hormone Testing o Estrogen and Progesterone:
- To evaluate hormone levels.
- Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH): Indicative of menopausal status.
- Bone Health Assessment
- Bone Densitometry (DEXA): To measure bone mineral density and assess the risk of osteoporosis.
- Cardiovascular Evaluation
- Electrocardiogram (ECG): To check for arrhythmias or heart problems.
- Echocardiogram: If deeper heart disease is suspected.
- Stress Test: In case of important cardiovascular risk factors.
- Gynecological Evaluation
- Mammography: For breast cancer screening.
- Breast Ultrasound: In case of high breast density.
- Pap smear and HPV test: For cervical cancer screening.
- Transvaginal ultrasound: To evaluate the uterus and ovaries.
- Pelvic exam: To check for abnormalities in the reproductive organs.
- Mental Health Assessment
- Depression and Anxiety Questionnaires: To assess mental health, as menopause can affect mood.
- Sleep Assessment
- Sleep Study: If there are symptoms of sleep apnea or sleep disorders.
- Other Tests
- Cognitive Function Assessment: Especially if there are memory or cognitive problems.
- Complete ophthalmological examination: Visual acuity + Intraocular pressure + Campimetry + OCT
- Audiometry: To evaluate hearing.
3. POST EVALUATION
Your internist doctor will detail in a personalized way the results of your tests to inform you about their specific health, prevention and quality of life recommendations.
